Meeting Notice

March 21, 2011

7 pm until 9 pm

Don't let the weekend's Supermoon keep you inside. Plan on joining us at the Saint Louis Artists Guild for the Third Mondays Photography Section meeting.

  1. Jim Trotter will talk on photographing artwork. What does it take to get the same exposure across the flat piece and not have glare?
  2. Learn to howl naked* at the super moon. (*naked beneath your clothes) Time allowing.
  3. We'll have Round Two or is it Three to the Section's ByLaws. Read the attached and present your views at the meeting before a vote. (or post your comments to our blog)
  4. April is Model Photoshoot. Special date? New rules? Help decide how we'll handle this for 2011.
  5. We may have a special presentation on using a sound trigger to capture an image.
  6. Bring your own recent work to show and discuss. Either to brag or to get a critique or an idea.



Photography Section By-Laws

I. Purpose

The purpose of the Photography section is to recognize photography as a fine art; to be an advocate of and assist emerging photographers; to be a force in bringing photographic art to all segments of the community; and to be a resource and network for photographers of all ages and interests to improve their photographic skills. The section will work toward helping members have opportunities to exhibit their work and to raise public awareness of photography as a form of artistic expression.

II. Membership

General membership in the Photography Section of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild shall be open to members of the Guild in good standing (dues paid) with an interest in creating Photographically based art.

Honorary Membership. International photographers, not living in the St. Louis area, may be recognized for meritorious achievement and significant patronage to the field of photography.

III. Officers and Directors

The Board shall consist of a Chairperson, Secretary/Treasurer, Web/Blogmaster, and Exhibition Chairperson. All officers must be a member of the Photography section. The section elects its own officers. In the event chairperson is not available, the treasurer shall fulfill the responsibilities.

IV. Duties of Officers

A. The Chairperson shall preside at all meetings, shall attend the openings of the photography section exhibits, and shall promote the goodwill of the Photographers to the greater community and attend the St. Louis Board of Governors meetings.

B. The Secretary/Treasurer shall record the proceedings and actions of all meetings, and submit same to the Webmaster for distribution as well as submit written reports each month to the Board of Governors via the section Chairman, and shall maintain an accounting of the finances of the section including providing a projected budget for the approval by the section officers. He shall provide any financial reporting required by the Board of Governors and include as appropriate in the monthly report to the Board.

D. The Exhibition Chairperson shall be responsible for securing, jurying as required and hanging exhibits and shall attend all meetings of the Special Exhibits Committee of the Guild.

V. Election of Officers

A Nominating committee, consisting of the chairperson and two other members, shall select a slate of officers, who will serve for two years, for the coming year. The slate will be presented at the annual April business meeting for approval. Any member present may offer other nominations for offices.

VI. Committees and Duties

A. Membership Chairperson: shall welcome all visitors to monthly meetings, recruit new members.
B. Program Chairperson: shall secure program presenters for monthly meetings and all other speakers for special engagements at the Guild and shall secure jurors for exhibitions.
C. Promotional Chairperson: shall promote activities to the St. Louis community and provide listed programs and identification labels for all exhibitions.
D. Education Chairperson: shall promote education within the Guild and the St. Louis community.

Addition chair people may be added on an as needed basis.

VII. Meetings

Regular meetings of the Photography Section shall be held each month. The yearly term begins the 1st of June and end the last day of May.

VII Amendments
Proposed amendments to the bylaws must be submitted to the officers at least 30 days before a vote can be taken.

The current edition of “Roberts Rules of Order will be a guide for meetings.
