Member Portraits

At the February 2009 meeting, we drew names pairing two members. The assignment is to get with your partner and take each others' portraits. The purpose to form an on-line album of those portraits along with contact information. What the portrait looks like, what information you wish to have displayed is up to you and your photographer.

For those not in attendance at the meeting, it is not too late. Leave a comment on this blog post, or email Eric. We'll find you a partner or have a trio.

We do not need full resolution images for the blog, but please post images at least 800 pixels in dimension at 72-96 dpi. You should share the high res image file with your "model" separately. The contact information could be your name and phone number or email address. the information will be in the image, not text on the blog.

When you have your final blog portrait ready, you'll need to do one of the following:
1) Email just the JPEG attachment to STL.ArtistsGuild.Photographers.artistsguild@picasaweb.com with the subject line reading Members (preferred method)
2) Post it to this blog (contact Eric if you need author permissions)
3) Email the jpeg to Eric

Two eyes are better than one.

Two eyes are better than one. We all had fun and learned much from Stephen Best, a stereo artist for 50 years, and Karl M. Kindt III who has been teaching about the use of stereo 3d art, animation and imaging at Webster University for 18 years.

25 attened the meeting.

postedited by Eric...
Those in attendence received a free DVD and pair of cool 3D glasses. The DVD is loaded with images that can be seen 3D. If you do not have MicroSoft Powerpoint, you can still view the slideshow by downloading Open Office - free, open source. Available for the Mac and Windoze. Or for the few MicroSoft loyalists (why? please tell me why?), MicroSoft has a free viewer for downloading.

Meeting: Feb 16th - Third Monday

Photo Section - Third Mondays
When: Feb 16, 2009
Where: Brentwood Gallery
Time: starting at 7:00 pm

Come out to see the new exhibit at the Gallery: People in Photography
Start preparing for the next opening March 20. Hanging party March 16.
This Month: Come learn about bringing our 2D medium into 3D...

Synopsis:
Two eyes are better than one. You can’t see what’s real with one picture of the same scene. You need two images, from two perspectives 2.5 inches apart or you miss 50% of what is there to be seen. We are not cyclopses. We have dual vision brains so why not create duality in our paintings, drawings and images? Why is nearly all of our art and all of our imagery designed, painted, drawn for one-eyed beings? How do you create art for two eyed beings so 100% of reality is displayed? Why try to do so? Art communicates and the best art communicates in 3d stereo. Come and watch images of the 1904 World's Fair with both eyes fed the reality of that wondrous time in St. Louis history, seeing it in stereo. Come and see drawings in stereo. Learn how to create stereo 3d art. Watch as a stereo 3d artists actually draws in 3d before your very eyes. Take home with you a disk full of stereo art. Learn how to view stereo art WITHOUT using those blue and red glasses! Learn about the new era in stereo 3d art and how to join this revolutionary artistic movement. Learn how it is possible to convert one-eye designed art, 2d art, into stereo 3d art.

His guest:
Stephen Best, stereo artist for 50 years, will present some of his stereo drawings for consideration and speak about the technique of creating art in stereo 3d.

Bio:
Karl M. Kindt III has been teaching about the use of stereo 3d art, animation and imaging at Webster University for 18 years. He is a forensic litigation technologist for a law firm in St. Louis and produces 3 dimensional imagery for presentations by attorneys but also has been a stereographer for 43 years, creating stereo images and art and encourages the use of this medium to present what's real. His undergraduate degree is in Political Science and his masters degree is in philosophy and religion and his post graduate studies have focused upon using stereo and digital image tools in the arts and sciences.
